Women’s Hockey Announces 2017-18 Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team announced its team awards at the program's banquet on Monday night. Sophomore Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) was selected as the squad's Most Improved Player while junior Cara Najjar (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the Tara Mounsey Best Defenseman honor.

For the second-straight season, senior Cynthia Kyin (Skokie, Ill.) took home the Academic Excellence Award while senior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) picked up her third consecutive Chelsea McMillan Award for Pride and Perseverance recognition.

Sophomore Steph Rempe (Calgary, Alberta) garnered the Alli McMillan Unsung Hero Award while sophomores Maybelline Beiring (Calumet, Mich.) and Alley Rempe (Calgary, Alberta) received the Alison Rolandelli Best Teammate Award.

In addition, Donovan, Kyin, Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.), Katie Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) and Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) were recognized for their contributions to the program over the past four seasons.


Alli McMillan Unsung Hero Award: Steph Rempe

  • Appeared in 26 games, recording three points on one goal and two assists
  • Scored a goal versus No. 3/3 Clarkson (Nov. 4)
  • Registered her first-career assist at Sacred Heart on Dec. 30


Most Improved Player Award: Calla Isaac

  • Started 18 games in net, logging 1018.04 minutes
  • Recorded a career-high 48 saves against No. 10 Robert Morris on Oct. 21
  • Made 30 or more saves in 11 games, including five games with 40+ stops


Alison Rolandelli Best Teammate Award: Maybelline Beiring and Alley Rempe
Beiring

  • Appeared in 27 games, totaling one goal and two assists for three points on the year
  • Ranked second on the team in blocked shots with 52
  • Scored her first-career goal at Sacred Heart on Dec. 30

Rempe

  • Appeared in all 29 games, recording seven points on two goals and five assists
  • Recorded a point in four-straight games
  • Logged 24 shots on the season

 
Tara Mounsey Best Defenseman Award: Cara Najjar

  • Played in all 29 games, leading the defense in scoring with 12 points on one goal and a team-best 11 assists
  • Led the team in blocked shots with 59
  • Her 12 points tied for fourth on the team in scoring


Chelsea McMillan Award for Pride and Perseverance: Sam Donovan

  • Named Honorable Mention All-Ivy
  • Appeared in all 29 games as an assistant captain, leading the team in points (16) and tied for the team lead in goals (8) while adding eight assists
  • Led the Bears in goal scoring all four seasons at College Hill
  • Played in every game of her career (116)


Academic Excellence Award: Cynthia Kyin

  • Appeared in 28 games as the team's captain, totaling five points on one goal and four assists
  • Assisted the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win at Dartmouth on Nov. 11
  • Ranked third on the team in blocked shots with 47 on the year
