Women’s Hockey Defeated by No. 3/3 Clarkson, 11-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 3/3 Clarkson, 11-1, on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. The Bears, facing their second ranked opponent in as many days, received a score from sophomore Steph Rempe (Calgary, Alberta) in the contest.

Clarkson (10-1-1, 3-1-0 ECAC) scored quick out of the gates to open the game, when Elizabeth Giguere registered a goal at 1:01. The Golden Knights upped their advantage to three with tallies at 8:29 and 12:57.

Soon after Clarkson's third score, S. Rempe put Brown (0-6-0, 0-4-0 ECAC) on the board at 13:11 with her first of the season and the assist coming from senior Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.).

The Golden Knights would close out the frame with two more scores at 17:40 and 19:33 to take a 5-1 lead into the first break.

Clarkson would add three goals in the second (00:43, 11:05, 15:38) to increase its advantage to 8-1. Both teams special team units remained sharp in the second, with Clarkson 2-for-2 on the penalty kill, 3-for-3 overall, and Brown 3-for-3 in the period and 4-for-4 overall.

Giguere would add her second of the game at 3:33 of the third and Amanda Titus would record a score at 8:24. The Golden Knights were able to take advantage of their last power-play opportunity and scored at 18:14. Overall, Clarkson as 1-for-5 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-4.

Senior Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.) made 21 saves in one and a half periods of work while freshman Lauren Rippy (Plymouth, Mich.) made 16 stops in the remainder of the contest. Shea Tiley had six saves for Clarkson in the win while Jenna Brenneman relieved her in the second and turned away 15 shots of her own.

Brown will next make a quick trip up to Cambridge, Mass. to face RV/RV Harvard on Friday, Nov. 10 and will then travel to Hanover, N.H. to square off against Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 4. The game against the Crimson will begin at 6:00 p.m. while the contest versus the Big Green will start at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
