Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 10 Robert Morris, 11-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 10 Robert Morris, 11-0, at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night to open the 2017-18 season. The Colonials had a balanced scoring attack as seven different players recorded goals.

The game was back-and-forth to start for both teams until Brown (0-1-0) was called for a penalty at 3:55. The Bears were able to fight off the infraction but Robert Morris got on the board soon after the penalty expired with a score from Jaycee Gebhard (6:10).

Later in the opening stanza, the Colonials added their second at 18:05 when Amber Rennie put home a rebound to give the visitors a two-goal lead going into the break.

Freshman Lauren Rippy (Plymouth, Mich.) concluded the first with an impressive 17 saves while her counterpart, Elijah Milne-Price, made five stops.

Robert Morris (4-1-0) gained a 3-0 lead at 2:24 when Emilie Harley registered the tally. Emilie Curlett added a short-handed score at 5:11 while Sarah Lecavalier put in a power-play goal at 10:15. Lexi Templeman recorded another power-play goal at 18:29 and Natalie Marcuzzi scored a quick tally at 18:47 to close out the period and give the Colonials a 7-0 lead at the end of two.

Rippy added 14 saves to her total from the second stanza while Milne-Price turned away nine shots.

The Colonials continued to keep the pressure on and registered four scores in the second, with the first two coming from Howard (0:29, 3:05) followed by Rennie (3:48) and Curlett (11:56).

Senior Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.) went in goal for the third and made 14 saves. Milne-Price added eight in the final period for a total of 22 in the contest.

Sophomore Veronica Alois (Andover, Mass.) led Brown in shots with six, including a couple solid scoring chances in the second, while senior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) and sophomore Sarah Migliori (East Greenwich, R.I.) registered three shots apiece.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow (Oct. 21) to close out the series with Robert Morris at Meehan Auditorium starting at 1:00 p.m.
