Women’s Hockey to Host Kunlun Red Star (CWHL) in Exhibition Game on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's ice hockey team will play the Kunlun Red Star of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) in an exhibition contest on Friday, October 13 at Meehan Auditorium. The Chinese-based Red Star recently joined the CWHL with a five-year deal starting with the 2017-18 season. The team features 2017 Brown graduate Maddie Woo and former Bear head coach Digit Murphy.

Woo concluded her career with the Bears with 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points. The 2016-17 team captain missed the majority of Brown's campaign due to injury after opening the year with one goal and three assists in five games. Woo was selected by the Red Star in the seventh round of this year's draft with the 48th overall pick.

Murphy completed her career at Brown with 318 wins, six ECAC titles and five Ivy League championships. In addition, she coached one student-athlete who received the Patty Kazmaier Award, three All-Americans and seven Olympians. Murphy was the first female coach inducted into Brown's Wall of Honor.

Following the exhibition on Friday, the Bears open the regular season hosting No. 10 Robert Morris at Meehan Auditorium in a non-conference series on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21. For the complete 2017-18 Brown schedule, click here.
