  • Brown 2017-18 Winter Academic All-Ivy Selections Announced
    April 10, 2018
    Brown University had 10 student-athletes garner Academic All-Ivy accolades in an announcement made by the Ivy League on Tuesday. The five men and five women were key contributors to their respective fall teams with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

    The Brown women’s hockey team announced its team awards at the program’s banquet on Monday night. Sophomore Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) was selected as the squad’s Most Improved Player while junior Cara Najjar (Stoneham, Mass.) earned the Tara Mounsey Best Defenseman honor.

  • Women’s Hockey’s Donovan Signs With NWHL’s Connecticut Whale

    Brown women’s hockey senior forward Sam Donovan, the fifth overall selection in the 2017 NWHL Draft by the Connecticut Whale, has signed with the organization for the remainder of the season. The leading goal scorer for the Bears for the last four seasons, Donovan will practice with the Whale this week and is eligible to make her NWHL debut in the team’s next game, on Saturday night in Boston.

    The Brown women’s hockey team was defeated by Princeton, 5-2, to close out the season on Saturday at Meehan Auditorium. Senior Julianne Landry (Hanover, Mass.) finished the contest with a career-high 49 saves on Senior Day.

    The Brown women’s hockey team led after one period but Quinnipiac would score two goals in the second and third periods to claim a 4-1 win at Meehan Auditorium on Friday. Senior Katie Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) put in the Bears’ score on the night.
  • Women’s Hockey Wraps Up Season Hosting Quinnipiac (Fri.) and Princeton (Sat.)

    The Brown women’s hockey team will close out the regular season at home, hosting Quinnipiac on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6:00 p.m. and Princeton on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium. Prior to Saturday’s contest versus the Tigers, Brown will honor its five seniors, Sam Donovan, Cynthia Kyin, Julianne Landry, Katie Swanstrom and Samantha Swanstrom in a brief pregame ceremony. Both games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
  • Women’s Hockey Defeated by No. 6/6 Cornell, 6-1

    The Brown women’s hockey team was defeated by No. 6/6 Cornell, 6-1, on Sunday at Lynah Rink. After a 1-0 first period lead, the Big Red took control of the contest with five goals in the second. Freshman Kaitijane Blumberg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) netted the Bears’ lone score of the day.
  • Women’s Hockey Edged by No. 4/4 Colgate

    The Brown women’s hockey team battled No. 4/4 Colgate, shutting the Raiders out in the first and third periods, but fell 2-0 at Class of 1965 Arena on Friday night. The special team units were the difference on the night, with Colgate recording a power play and short-handed goal as its only scores. Sophomore Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) had a strong game in net, turning away 43 shots for the Bears.

    The Brown women’s hockey team was defeated by No. 8/8 St. Lawrence, 5-1, at Appleton Arena on Saturday. The first three goals of the game were scored on the power play, with the Saints holding onto a slim 2-1 lead, before they scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take the win.

    The Brown women’s hockey team was defeated by Harvard, 6-1, at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday. Harvard capitalized on the power-play generating three of its goals in the contest on the opportunities. Senior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) scored for the Bears, her eighth of the season to tie her for the team lead.

    Dartmouth scored the go ahead goal with 44.9 seconds remaining in the third period to defeat the Brown women’s hockey team in heartbreaking fashion, 3-2, at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.

    The Brown women’s hockey team will host Dartmouth on Friday, Jan. 26 and Harvard on Saturday, Jan. 27 in ECAC play. The Dartmouth contest is slated to start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday’s match-up is at 3:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
  • Women’s Hockey Drops 3-0 Decision to Yale

    The Brown women’s hockey team returned to Meehan Auditorium after seven-straight road games but were defeated by Yale, 3-0, in its homecoming on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs used two power-play goals in the second to take control of the contest and added an empty netter in the third to thwart off an attack by the Bears.

    Trailing 2-0, the Brown women’s hockey team scored an early third period goal to pull within one, but Yale generated two scores to go up 4-1 and eventually held on for a 4-2 win over the Bears on Thursday night at Ingalls Rink. Senior Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) and freshman Maddie Sisokin (Oakville, Ontario) generated Brown’s goals in the contest.

    The Brown women’s hockey team will play a home-and-home series with Yale on Thursday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 20. The Bears will travel to New Haven, Conn. for Thursday’s 7:00 p.m. match-up and will return to Meehan Auditorium for Saturday’s 1:00 p.m. game. Both contests will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network while Saturday’s contest will also appear on ESPN3.

    The Brown women’s hockey team was edged by Quinnipiac, 2-1, on Saturday at Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena. All of the game’s scoring was done in the second period, with the Bobcats scoring two straight in the frame and holding on for the victory.

    The Brown women’s hockey team was defeated by No. 8/9 Providence, 3-1, in the 23rd Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday afternoon at Schneider Arena. The Friars evened the Mayor’s Cup series with the win at 10-10-3.

    The Brown women’s hockey team will continue non-conference play and travel to nearby Schneider Arena to play in the 23rd installment of the Mayor’s Cup against No. 8/9 Providence College on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 2:00 p.m. The Friars have won the last three match-ups. The series between the inter-city rivals began in 1996 with Brown coming away victorious, 4-3, on January 24 in the inaugural game. Brown still holds the overall edge in the Mayor’s Cup series, 10-9-3.
  • Women’s Hockey Edged by Sacred Heart, 5-4

    The Brown women’s hockey team was defeated by Sacred Heart, 5-4, on Saturday at the Sports Center of Connecticut. Junior Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) registered her first multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist to lead the Bears.
