LAST TIME OUT

For just the second time this season the Brown women's hockey team was denied access to the back of the net as No. 6/6 Cornell served the Bears a 4-0 loss in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action at James Lynah Rink on Saturday.

Brown (2-16-5, 1-12-3 ECAC) battled the nationally-ranked Big Red (16-4-3, 11-2-3 ECAC) to a scoreless tie through 20 minutes of play, but Cornell erupted for three goals in the second period to establish a lead it would not relent.

For the Big Red, Jillian Saulnier and Alyssa Gagliardi each finished with a goal and an assist, while Emliy Fulton and Kaitlin Doering cashed in a marker apiece.

Freshman goalie Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) braved the third-best scoring offense in the country and made 22 saves in 43 minutes of action. Senior co-captain Aubree Moore (Bowie, Md.) came on in relief and stopped 14 shots in the final 17 minutes without allowing a goal.

In net for Cornell, Lauren Slebodnick stopped all 13 attempts she encountered in 43:01, while Stefannie Moak made five saves in 16:59 of relief.

Junior Brittany Moorehead (Clinton, N.Y.) fired four shots on goal to lead the Brown offense, while sophomore Monica Masucci (Toronto, Ontario) took three shots against the Cornell defense.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS

The Engineers reached the 10-win mark on the strength of a four-game unbeaten streak in mid-January, but have since dropped four straight contests entering the weekend.

Rensselaer benefits from a truly balanced offense with seven players at the 12-point mark or higher. Sophomore Alexa Gruschow is tied for the team lead in points with 17 on six goals and 11 assists, while senior Jordan Smelker ranks first on the squad with 12 assists to lift her to the 17-point plateau. Lauren Wash's 11 goals are a team best and junior goalie Kelly O'Brien has secured all 10 wins in net while allowing 2.18 goals per game.

SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN

The Dutchwomen take the ice this weekend looking to snap a seven-game losing skid, beginning with a league showdown at Yale on Friday. Union snuck away with a narrow 2-1 win over Brown in Schenectady, N.Y., earlier this season when senior Maddy Norton knocked in the go-ahead goal with 39 seconds left in regulation.

The combination of Norton (15 assists) and sophomore Kathryn Tomaselli (11 goals) accounts for the majority of the Union offense, while the defense leans on junior goalie Shenae Lundberg and her .904 save percentage in nearly 83 percent of the team's minutes. Half of sophomore Jessica Kaminsky's six goals are on the power play, a mark that stands second in the ECAC for a squad that has converted 21 of 109 (.193) man-up opportunities.
