Alena Polenska Named ECAC Player of the Week
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND – Senior co-captain Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic) has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending February 17, 2013. Polenska returned to the Bears this weekend after spending two weeks competing in Olympic qualification competitions with the Czech Republic National team, and proved to be one of the driving forces in Brown's first weekend sweep since January of 2009, earning a plus-4 ranking for the weekend.
In Friday's 2-1 win over Union, Polenska assisted on the game-winning power play goal to help the Bears complete the series sweep of the Dutchwomen. On Saturday, she contributed to four of the five goals that Brown scored, leading the team to a 5-2 win over Rensselaer. Polenska, the first Brown player to win an ECAC award this season, assisted on three goals, one of which was scored on the power play, and notched a goal of her own. She is currently the Bears' leader in all three offensive categories, contributing 17 points on eight goals and nine assists.
Brown will play the final games of the 2012-2013 regular season this week, beginning with a match-up at #5 Harvard Crimson tonight. Action is set to begin at 7:00pm at the Bright Hockey Center.
