Jolin Scores as Brown Falls to Princeton, 6-1

PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY – Despite a second period power-play goal and outshooting the Tigers in the third, the Brown women's ice hockey team (4-16-1, 3-13-0 ECAC) couldn't contain the Princeton (9-12-2, 4-10-2 ECAC) offense, losing 6-1 at Hobey Baker Rink.  Senior Laurie Jolin (Lachine, Montreal) scored the Bears' lone goal.

Princeton's Molly Contini opened the scoring at 5:46 of the 1st period.  During the middle of the frame, the teams traded power play opportunities with a Brown minor penalty at 11:31 and a Princeton minor at 14:45.  Neither squad, however, could capitalize on its special teams' opportunity.  At 18:40 of the first period, Brianna Leahy lit the lamp, extending the Tiger's lead to two.

A Princeton tripping penalty gave Brown a man advantage just 17 seconds into the second period. Jolin capitalized for the Bears, scoring a power play goal at 2:00 and brining Bruno to within 2-1.  Juniors Jennifer Nedow (Brockville, Ontario) and Jessica Hoyle (Toronto, Ontario) each earned assists on the goal.  The Bears took a penalty just 37 seconds later and Kelly Cooke returned Princeton's lead to two goals, scoring on the power play at 3:11.  The Tigers skated into the second intermission with a 5-1 lead after Contini scored her second and third goals of the evening at 9:43 and 12:42.

The Bears started the third period looking for a comeback.  Brown dominated the period offensively, outshooting the Tigers, 12-6.  Unfortunately, it was Princeton that would break through, scoring the game's final goal at 10:04.  The Bears had two power-play opportunities late in the period but could get no closer, as the game ended 6-1 in favor of Princeton.

For the game, the Bears were 1-5 on the power play while the Tigers were 1-4 on the man advantage.  Brown junior goalie Aubree Moore (Bowie, MD) finished with 25 saves while Princeton's Kimberly Newell recorded with 24.

The Bears continue action next weekend when they travel to ECAC and Ivy League foes, Dartmouth and Harvard.  Friday night's game against the Big Green in Hanover starts at 7:00 p.m.  The Bears take the ice against the Crimson on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Cambridge.
