Polenska Leads Czech Republic National Team to IIHF World Championship Gold Medal

Providence, R.I. – Junior center Alena Polenska (Kutna Hora, Czech Republic), the captain of Czech Republic National Team, helped lead her squad to the Gold Medal in Division I Pool A a the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championship in Ventspils, Latvia. With the victory, the team will be promoted to the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship.

Polenska was selected as her team's best player as named by the coaches in the championship and was named player of the game in her team's matchup against Kazakhstan. She finished the tournament with three goals and two assists and plus-two rating. 

The Czech Republic National Team went 4-1-0 in to register 12 points, one ahead of Norway, to secure the top spot in Division I – Group A.

Group A was comprised of the Czech Republic, Austria, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Norway.

Despite missing eight games for Brown last season to take part in mandatory training for her National team, Polenska proved to be one of the most potent offensive weapons for the Bears, tallying seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. She finished second on the team in goals scored, third in points and third in assists.
