Hanover, N.H. – Brown continued its three-game road trip to open the 2010-11 season on Friday night at Dartmouth. At Thompson Arena, Brown was able to tie the game up late at two, but a short-handed opportunity pushed the Big Green to the victory in their season-opener. Dartmouth (1-0-0, 1-0-0 ECAC) finished on top of Brown (0-2-0, 0-1-0 ECAC) by the score of 4-2.
After the first period, Brown found themselves trailing Dartmouth 1-0, but the Bears quickly erased the advantage in the second period. The rookie connection of forwards Vanessa Welten (Crysler, Ontario) and Jessica Hoyle (Toronto, Ontario) paid dividends as Hoyle found Welten on a nifty pass for the open look at the 4:24 mark.
Darmouth took advantage of a shorthanded opportunity midway through the second to reclaim the lead. Big Green sophomore Camille Dumais fired one on net the ricocheted off a defender its way past sophomore netminder Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, Ontario)
Brown responded in the third on a 1-on-1 breakaway when senior forward Erica Kromm (Naramata, British Columbia) made a spectacular play as she beat one defender and scored the goal as she was pushed into the net.
Unfortunately the tie would not last as the Dartmouth offense got another power play opportunity and made the most of the its chance, finding the back of the net with 9:35 remaining in the game. An insurance goal at the 17:27 put the game out of reach and secured a season-opening win for Dartmouth.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon to finish their three-game, season-opening raod trip when they face their second nationally-ranked opponent in three games when they take on No. 8 Harvard at 4 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
