Providence, R.I. - Brown hosted Union College in an ECAC Hockey league game on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a 3-0 defeat after the Bears were unable to solve Union goalie Alana Marcinko, who recorded 47 saves. With the loss, Brown falls to 2-12-4 on the season, and 0-8-3 in league play, while Union improves to 5-18-1 overall, and 1-9-1 against ECAC opponents.
The Bears outplayed Union in most statistical categories, outshooting the Dutchwomen by a 47-22 margin, including 20-8 in the first period, but Union was able to sneak in the first score, picking up a 1-0 lead on a shot from the right circle. Brown nearly answered back later in the frame when sophomore Alison Wong nearly got off a shot at the open net for a sure goal, but Marcinko made a terrific diving save to hold Bruno scoreless.
Union added another goal in the second, pulling Brown goalie Katie Jamieson out of position, then passing to the post, where the puck was dumped into goal. The Dutchwomen then added their final tally of the evening in the third, scoring on an empty net after Jamieson had been pulled for an extra attacker.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, January 22, when they host St. Lawrence at Meehan Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
