Despite rookie goalie Katie Jamieson’s (Waterloo, ON)
career high 48 saves, the Bears dropped a 5-2 decision to the
visiting Big Green on Friday night in a game that was much closer
than the final score indicated. With the loss, Brown falls to 1-5-3
on the season, including 0-4-3 in ECAC Hockey action, while
Dartmouth evens its record at 3-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league
play.
The Big Green controlled much of the opening frame, outshooting
Bruno by a 20-8 margin, and took a 2-0 lead heading into the first
intermission. However, head coach Digit Murphy and her staff made
the necessary adjustments in the locker room, and the Bears came
out playing at a different speed in the second period. Though the
Big Green still held a narrow edge in shots at 12-8, Brown made
theirs count, scoring a pair in the frame to pull within 3-2.
On the first Brown goal, sophomore Jacquie Pierri (Montclair, N.J.)
found junior forward Erica Kromm (Naramata, B.C.) on the left post,
where she buried the puck in net to pull the Bears to within 2-1.
Though Dartmouth answered back just a minute and a half later to
push the lead back to two, the Bears lit the lamp again in the
second, as a pair of rookies hooked up for a goal. Freshman
Laurie Jolin stole a pass from Dartmouth, and fired it ahead to
classmate Alena Polenska, who fired it past the Big Green keeper to
make it a 3-2 game.
Dartmouth came out firing in the third period, keeping a steady barrage of pressure on Jamieson, who had 19 saves in the final 20 minutes. Though she was able to hold the game in check for much of the period, Dartmouth picked up two goals in the final five minutes to extend the advantage and come away with the 5-2 victory.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host the Harvard Crimson at Meehan Auditorium at 4:00 p.m.
