Brown Skates to Scoreless Tie With Quinnipiac

Led by a stellar effort from rookie goalie Katie Jamieson (Waterloo, ON), the Brown women's hockey team skated to a 0-0 overtime tie against the visiting Quinnipiac Bobcats on Friday night. Jamieson recorded 32 saves, including 10 in the third period and overtime, holding the Bobcats off the board to preserve the draw. With the game, Brown moves to 1-3-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in ECAC Hockey play, while Quinnipiac improves to 4-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 against league foes.

The first period saw a number of shots from both sides, though none found the net.  Brown took an impressive 13 attempts, compared to just nine for Quinnipiac, but both goalies were at the top of their game, making a number of superlative saves.  The scoreless streak continued in the second, as the teams once again were firing, combining for 19 shots, but coming up empty.  Jamieson was particularly impressive for the Bears, coming up with 13 saves in the period and holding the tie going into the second intermission.

The third frame was even more exciting than the previous two, as each shot carried with it the possibility of deciding the game.  Both squads continued to get good looks, as the Bears outshot Quinnipiac 13-8, but the run of stellar goalkeeping remained untouched, keeping the scoreboard empty through 60 minutes and forcing a sudden death overtime period.  In the extra five minutes, each team took a pair of shots on goal, and had a number of other chances, but again couldn't capitalize.  Overall, the two squads combined for 66 shots on net, but terrific goalie play held for a 0-0 tie at the final buzzer.

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host ECAC Hockey and Ivy League rival Princeton at 4:00 p.m.
