Hanover, New Hampshire - Brown opened its fall golf season with a third place finish at the 12-team Dartmouth Women's Golf Invitational, played at the par-71, 5812 yard Hanover Country Club. The Bears made up ground in the final round, shooting the second lowest score of the day (304) to finish with a 36-hole 619, moving from fifth place after round one to a third place finish.
Yale captured the team championship with a two-round 598 (303, 295), followed by Boston U. (613), Brown (619), host Dartmouth (622), Siena (636), Hartford (640),Fairfield (642), Wagner (644), Hofstra (652), Dartmouth II (662) and Holy Cross (758).
Pacing the Bears was sophomore Stephanie Hsieh, who picked up where she left off a year ago to finish third individually at 146, shooting a torrid two-under par 69 in the final round, the lowest score of the tournament.
Freshman Maggie Min made her collegiate debut and placed ninth individually on rounds of 76-75—151. Sophomore Michelle Chin came in with a 36-hole 160 (81-79), while freshman Lauren Flynn had a strong inaugural outing, shooting 81-82—163.
Senior Erica Farrer also scored with rounds of 90-81—171. Three Brown players competed as individuals, including freshman Juliette Garay, who shot 84-82—166, sophomore Cassandra Carothers with 79-88—177, and sophomore Kanika Gandhi, who shot 93-89—182.
Coach Danielle Griffith's squad will be back in action again on September 22-23, at the Yale Invitational, played at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.
