Nov. 11, 2008
PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown freshman Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) was named the Ivy League Field Hockey Player and Rookie of the Week after tallying a career-high seven points to lead the Bears to a 4-1 victory over Yale on Saturday afternoon. In Brown's final five games of the season, Springmeyer notched 14 points with at least one in each of the five games.
Springmeyer had a hand in all four of Brown's goals against the Bulldogs, scoring her first career hat-trick and also assisting the game-winning goal. After Yale had taken a 1-0 lead early in the game, Springmeyer tied the contest at 1-1 with 13 minutes left in the first half, scoring on a give-and-go.
Springmeyer then played a part in a three-goal outburst in a furious six minutes in the second half to put the game away. She assisted on the game-winning goal and then proceeded to score at the 51:32 mark on a breakaway. She completed the hat-trick two minutes later on a rebound that caromed off of the goalie. Springmeyer finished the season as Brown's leading scorer with 21 points (12th all-time at Brown), while also leading the team with 8 goals (12th all-time at Brown) and 5 assists. The 21 points is the highest total for a Brown rookie since Kim Rogers `00 had 28 points during the 1996 season.
