Brown sophomore Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX/Kinkaid) has been named the Ivy League's Player of the Week, while freshman Kathryn Noe (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) picked up Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors.
The two athletes played a crucial part in all three Brown wins last week, helping Brown to snap a three-game losing streak and win three consecutive games, evening their record at 3-3.
A forward for the Bears, Buza scored her first two goals of the 2001 season last week, one in the Bears 4-2 victory over #19 Connecticut and the game-winning goal in Brown's 2-1 victory over Rutgers. She tallied the fourth goal of the UConn game with 3:42 remaining to put the game out of reach for the Huskies and snap UConn's 18-game winning streak over Brown, dating back to 1975. She is Brown's second leading scorer on the team with four points and also has one defensive save.
A goalie for the Bears, Noe led Brown to three wins while allowing just three goals on the week. She had a career-high seven saves in the 4-2 victory over #19 Connecticut then followed that performance with her first career shutout in a 2-0 win over Vermont. She also held Rutgers in check for over 67 minutes after allowing an early goal. Brown would go on to win 2-1. She has an 0.89 goals against average and a 0.830 save percentage on the season.
The Brown field hockey team, under head coach Carolan Norris, currently stands 3-3 and will face Northeastern on Wednesday, October 3 in a 5:00 p.m. game. The contest will be played at Wentworth Institute.
