Sept. 17, 2003

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown sophomore Brooke Townsend (Houston, TX/The Taft School), who scored four goals in three games last week, has been named the Ivy League's Player of the Week, for the week ending September 14.

A forward for the Bears, Townsend led Brown to a 3-0 week, while the team improved to 3-1 and 1-0 in the Ivy League. She scored her first career goal, which would prove to be the game-winner, in Brown's 3-2 win over Sacred Heart, while playing forward for the first time in her career. Just three days later, Townsend led Brown past Dartmouth, 3-2, for the Bears' first Ivy win of the season, scoring all three Brown goals.

The leading scorer on the team with eight points, Townsend currently ranks 13th in the country in goals per game. She also ranks second in the Ivy League in both points and points per game, and leads the League in both goals and goals per game.

The Brown field hockey team, under head coach Carolan Norris, will look to improve its record today, hosting state-rival Rhode Island at 4:00 p.m. on Warner Roof.
