Brown University Field Hockey Assistant Coach Tara Harrington has been promoted to an Associate Head Coach, under Head Coach Carolan Norris.
A 1994 graduate of Brown, Harrington returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach in 1998. After spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach, she will assume responsibilities as the associate head coach this fall. She began her coaching career at the University of Rhode Island in 1994 and returned to Brown for one season, before moving to a high school teaching and coaching position in Hoosick Falls, New York.
As a goalie for the Bears, she started throughout her four-year career, playing every minute of every game in net for the 1991-1993 seasons. The goalie for the 1991 Ivy League Champions, Harrington earned second team All-Ivy honors in 1992 after earning Honorable Mention honors the year before. Her 0.78 goals against average in 1992, a Brown record, was the seventh lowest in the country, while her 0.75 Ivy League goals against average led the Ancient Eight. In addition, she posted seven shutouts in 1992, which remains a Brown record for shutouts in a season. She served as captain her senior year and was the recipient of the Brown Field Hockey Outstanding Defensive Player Award. Her 19 career shutouts is also a Brown record.
Harrington graduated with a degree in history, and also completed the Teacher Education Program while an undergraduate at Brown. She has been chosen the USFHA Futures Program Regional Director for Connecticut and Rhode Island for the past three years and has served as the Head Regional Goalie Coach for the past two years.
