July 3, 2008
Former Brown field hockey player Katie Auriemma (Medford, NJ) has been named a CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-American. A First Team District I selection earlier this spring, Auriemma was up for consideration for the National Team and earned Second Team honors in a vote by the CoSIDA Academic All-American committee.
A two-year starter at defense on the Brown field hockey team, Auriemma played in 56 career games and helped lead the Bears' defense this past season, earning the team's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award. A four-time selection to the NFHCA All-Academic Team, Auriemma also earned Academic All-Ivy honors in the fall of 2007. One of 10 recipients of Brown's Joslin Award, given to seniors who have distinguished themselves through their involvement in campus life, Auriemma was one of 37 Brown juniors elected to the Brown chapter of Phi Beta Kappa last spring and served as the Undergraduate Secretary for Phi Beta Kappa this past year. Auriemma was also a Meikeljohn Advisor for two years, a WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) mentor, and an Academic Tutor. She had a 3.96 GPA at the time of her nomination and graduated in May with a degree in Biology.
