NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown field hockey team (11-6, 4-3) closed out the 2003 season with a 3-1 loss at Yale, on Saturday afternoon. The Bears end the season in fourth place in the Ivy League, capping off one of their best seasons in recent history.
After nearly an entire half of scoreless action, senior Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX) gave Brown a 1-0 lead with an unassisted tally with 27 seconds remaining in the first half.
However, the second half was all Yale. After recording just one shot in the first half, the Bulldogs knotted the game with a goal at 30:37 of the second half. Yale took a 2-1 lead just seven minutes later on a goal scored off a corner, and grabbed a 3-1 lead just 5:10 later for the final score.
Junior goalie Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT) made one save in net for Brown. The game marked the final career contest for the six seniors, Buza, Molly Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH), Meaghan Harwood (Hoosick Falls, NY), Nora Pickens (Wyndmoor, PA), Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL), and Margaret Pulvermann (Bethesda, MD).
