WORCESTER, MA - Sophomore Victoria Sacco (Madison, NJ) scored twice to help the Brown field hockey team (9-5) erase a 1-0 deficit and post a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross (12-4) on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Stacy Gugliotta (East Falmouth, MA), the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week, recorded two assists in the win, as the Bears handed the Crusaders their first loss since September 10.
Tara Welch gave Holy Cross a 1-0 lead just 10:10 into the contest when she knocked the ball into the net off a pass from Laura Cohen.
The Bears answered right back at 17:41, as Sacco scored on a penalty corner off a pass from Gugliotta. With a little less than three minutes to go in the half, senior Tracy Dungo (North Caldwell, NJ) scored her first goal of the season on another corner to go into the break with a 2-1 lead that Brown would not relinquish. Senior Samantha Lloyd (Shavertown, PA) earned an assist on the goal, her team-leading fifth assist of the year.
Sacco provided some insurance for the Bears with her second of the game off another pass from Gugliotta on a corner at 48:30.
Junior Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) made five saves in net as Holy Cross outshot the Bears, 11-8 for the game. Brown returns to action this Sunday, October 29, when it travels to Philadelphia to face Penn in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
