PROVIDENCE, RI - Princeton received two goals apiece from Holly McGarvie and Katie Reinprecht as the 12th-ranked Tigers (10-2, 4-0) earned a 7-1 victory over the Brown field hockey team (3-9, 0-4) on Saturday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium.
Reinprecht put Princeton ahead with her first of the game in just the eighth minute of play. Brown held off Princeton over the next 15 minutes, but back-to-back goals by McGarvie at 22:17 and 26:39 increased the Tigers' lead to 3-0. Reiprecht's second of the game came with just 1:21 remaining in the first half as Princeton took a 4-0 lead into the break.
Kathleen Sharkey increased the Tigers' lead to 5-0 just 1:12 into the second half. However, less than three minutes later, senior Victoria Sacco (Madison, NJ) got Brown on the board on one of the Bears' two second-half penalty corners. Sophomore Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) earned an assist on the goal.
The Tigers scored two unassisted goals in the final 10 minutes for the 7-1 final. Sophomore Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) earned the start in net, recording 18 saves in 64:24, allowing six goals. Freshman Caroline Washburn (Pittsburgh, PA) played the final 5:36 and stopped five shots, allowing one goal.
Princeton outshot Brown, 49-5, for the game, including a 30-5 margin in shots on goal. The tigers also had 13 penalty corners to Brown's two.
The Bears return home for a pair of games this week, as they host cross-town rival Providence on Wednesday, October 22nd at 4:00 p.m., and Cornell on Saturday, October 25th, at 12:00 noon.
