Tigers Defeat Brown, 2-0, in Ivy League Field Hockey Action

Oct. 18, 2003

Providence, RI - On Saturday, October 18, 2003 the Brown Field Hockey (7-5, 2-2) fell to eleventh ranked Princeton (8-3, 5-0), 2-0. Both teams started strong and it was nearly halfway through the first period when the first shot on goal occurred. Brown was led by their goalkeeper, junior Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT), who tallied ten saves for the Bears.

However, the Tigers did manage to put a few past her. At 15:41 in the first Ashley Sennett scored an unassisted goal for Princeton. The Bears had several strong breakaways, but often were unable to get the shot off. The Tigers were able to stymie Brown's offense in the first, holding them to only two shots on goal.

The second half heated up very quickly when Princeton went on a breakaway, and a Brown player shoved the Princeton player as she was lining up her shot causing a penalty stroke to be called. Lizzie Black took the stroke for the Tigers. She lifted it high and right past Noe for a goal at 29:47.

This set the tone for the second half-both teams were more aggressive and played very physical defense. The Bears stepped it up a notch recording six shots in the second half as well as getting six penalty corners. Yet the bears, despite repeated attempts, were unable to finish, as Princeton held on for the 2-0 victory.

The Bears continue actin on Wednesday, October 22, hosting cross-town rival Providence College at 4:00 in the afternoon on Warner Roof.
