Oct. 17, 2001

PROVIDENCE, RI - Sophomore Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) scored back-to-back goals and sophomore leading scorer Lizzie Buza scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to lead Brown (6-5) to a 3-0 victory over Holy Cross (10-4) in a field hockey game played at Warner Roof on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears took advantage of their first penalty corner just 13:35 into the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Senior tri-captain Megan Patterson (Holliston, MA) stopped the ball and immediately passed it to sophomore Nora Pickens (Wyndmoor, PA), who found Buza on her left. Buza fired the ball into the back of the net and the Bears never looked back.

Just 57 seconds into the second half, senior Hyun-Joo Park (Wayne, NJ) had a one-on-one with the Holy Cross keeper. Sophomore Jennifer Corsilli (Fairfield, NJ) saved the shot, but Pierpont was their to knock in the rebound and increase Brown's lead to 2-0 with 34:03 remaining in the game. Pierpont added her second goal less then seven minutes later when she tipped in a Buza shot with 27:21 remaining for the 3-0 score.

Freshman Kathryn Noe (Simsbury, CT) earned her third career shut out making eight saves in net for Brown, while Corsilli made four saves for the Crusaders.

The Bears continue action on Sunday, October 21 when they travel to Cornell, looking to even their Ivy League record at 2-2 in a 12:00 noon contest.
