Oct. 6, 2001

NEW YORK, NY - Brown (4-4, 1-1) scored three unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 3-2 victory over Columbia in an Ivy League game played in New York on Saturday afternoon.

Just 10 minutes into the contest, the Bears were awarded a penalty stroke, which senior tri-captain Megan Patterson (Holliston, MA) converted to give Brown a 1-0 lead. The penalty stroke was her second of the season.

Sophomore Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX), last week's Ivy League Player of the Week, tallied Brown's second goal of the game with 3:43 remaining to give the Bears a 2-0 lead and added a second goal, which proved to be the game-winner just 2:37 later.

With Brown leading 3-0 in the second half, Columbia got on the board just 24 seconds into the second stanza and added their second goal with 8:27 remaining, but could get no closer as Brown would hang on for a 3-2 lead.

Freshman goalie Kathryn Noe (Simsbury, CT), last week's Ivy League Rookie of the Week, made three saves in net for the Bears, who will travel to Sacred Heart on Wednesday , October 10, for a 3:30 game.
