PISCATAWAY, NJ - Freshman Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) had a career-high 15 saves for the Bears, but Rutgers (7-5) scored twice to post a 2-0 win over the Brown field hockey team (0-9) on Sunday afternoon at RU Stadium Complex.
The Scarlet Knights scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 13th minute when Amy Lewis' shot deflected into the net off the foot of a Brown defender. Seconds before the goal, sophomore Whitney Knowlton (Columbus, OH) had a defensive save on a shot by Cat Badolato, but the rebound bounced out to Lewis, who knocked it into the cage.
Kessler settled into a rhythm during the second half when she made 12 consecutive saves before the Scarlet Knights increased their lead to 2-0 on a penalty corner and their 13th shot of the half at 67:00.
The Bears continue action on Saturday, October 6, when they travel to New York to face Columbia in a 1:00 p.m. Ivy contest.
