Field Hockey Fights Harvard To A Tough 3-2 Loss

Sept. 28, 2002

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Harvard Crimson (5-1, 3-0) scored the game-winning goal with just 4:53 remaining in the game to defeat Brown (2-4, 1-2), 3-2, in an Ivy League field hockey contest Saturday afternoon at Brown's Warner Roof.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead with 27:44 remaining in the first half when junior Molly Carleton (Shaker Heights, OH) sent the ball across the circle and classmate Lizzie Buza (Houston, TX) fired it into the cage for the early lead.

However, just 2:42 later, the Crimson knotted the contest and took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Mina Pell with 10:33 left in the first half.

Junior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL), last week's Ivy League Player of the Week, notched her sixth goal of the season with 18:32 remaining in the game to tie the contest at 2-2.

The score remained tied until Kate McDavitt scored the game-winner for the Crimson, her second goal of the game.

Sophomore goalie Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT) stopped nine shots in net for the Bears, who continue action on Friday evening when they travel to Boston College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
