HANOVER, NH - The Brown field hockey team (1-6, 0-2) dropped its second straight overtime contest, falling to Dartmouth (1-5, 1-1), 5-4, on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) led Brown with two goals and an assist, including the game-tying goal, while freshman Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) tallied a goal and an assist.
The Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead just 13:16 into the game when Springmeyer scored her second goal in as many games off an assist from Hyland on a Bears' penalty corner.
However, Dartmouth tied the contest at 30:05 and then changed things quickly with two more goals in a span of 4:17, taking a 2-1 lead at 31:48, and a 3-1 lead with 38 seconds left in the first half.
Sophomore Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) made it a 3-2 game less than 10 minutes into the second half with her first goal of the season, but the Big Green answered just eight minutes later to regain the two-goal lead.
Hyland then took over for Brown, scoring twice on penalty corners in a span of 5:03 with just under six minutes to go to force overtime. Her first goal of the season, assisted by Springmeyer and senior Victoria Sacco (Madison, NJ) brought Brown to within 4-3 with 5:57 remaining. She then forced overtime with an unassisted tally at 69:06.
Dartmouth took the only two shots in overtime and put the winning goal away just 5:04 into the extra period.
Sophomore Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) started in net for the Bears and made seven saves, allowing four goals, in 55:45, before giving way to freshman Caroline Washburn (Pittsburgh, PA). Washburn played the remaining 19:19 and recorded three saves.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday afternoon, October 1, when they host Fairfield in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
