Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University Field Hockey Team (2-4) snapped a four-game skid, while earning its second straight win at Warner Roof, with a 2-0 victory over the University of Rhode Island (1-5) on Wednesday afternoon. With the shutout, the Bears have yet to allow a goal on Warner Roof, outscoring their opposition, 9-0 in two games.

Brown controlled the game from the opening whistle, out-shooting the Rams 15-4 in the first frame. Finally, with 15:24 remaining in the first half, the Bears broke the 0-0 deadlock when junior Lindsay Boris (Shavertown, PA) scored her second goal of the year to give Brown a lead it would not relinquish. After an initial shot bounced off a URI defender in the circle, Boris found the Rams' goalie out of position and fired a quick shot into the open net for the 1-0 lead.

Less than 10 minutes later, with 7:13 remaining in the half, junior leading scorer Kristen Vincent (Glens Falls, NY) scored on one of Brown's five first-half penalty corners.

Vincent, the recipient of a stop by senior Julia Kelderman (Chevy Chase, MD), sent a rocket into the net, beating the Rams' M.J. Britt, low and to her right. Junior Tess Belmont (Poughkeepsie, NY) had the push-in for the Bears to earn her fifth assist of the season. Belmont and Kelderman share the lead in assists for the Bears with five, first in the Ivy League.

Brown had numerous chances in the second half, out-shooting URI 14-1 in the final 35:00, but the Bears couldn't capitalize and the score remained 2-0.

In net for the Bears, freshman Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) recorded five saves for the shutout, while earning her first collegiate win. Brown continues action this Saturday, September 25, when it hosts the Harvard in a 12:00 noon Ivy League contest.
