Brown Field Hockey Hands Vermont a 1-0 Loss

Sept. 20, 2003

Providence, RI - After dominating the entire game Brown (5-1) finally scored in the final five minutes of the contest to defeat the University of Vermont (0-7), 1-0, on Saturday, September 20, 2003 on Warner Roof. Senior Meaghan Harwood (Hoosick Falls, NY)notched the only goal for the Bears.

The game started sluggishly in part due to the unseasonably hot weather in Providence. Brown, however, dominated the shooting, getting off 18 shots in comparison to Vermont's four, none of which were taken in the first half. Despite taking seven corners Brown had trouble finishing shots.

With the game seemingly headed into overtime, Harwood stepped up for the Bears. Senior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) came into the circle and fired a hard shot, which the goalie stopped. However, Harwood came in chasing the rebound, picked up the ball on the move, and fired it in the cage low and left for the win. Harwood scored with 4:19 left on the clock.

It was a slow day for junior Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT) who recorded two saves in her first shutout of the season.

Brown continues action on Saturday, September 27, when it travels to Cambridge, MA to face Harvard at 12:00 noon.
