Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Brown field hockey team (1-2) dropped a 1-0 decision to Villanova (5-1) on Friday evening. The game was close throughout with the Wildcats holding a slim, 14-13, advantage in shots (9-8 on goal) and an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Villanova, which has won all five of its games this season by shutting out its opponents, scored all it would need in the 33rd minute when Lauren Wuzzardo fired the ball past sophomore Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) for what would prove to be the game-winner.

Sophomore Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) led Brown with five shots, three of them on goal, while freshman Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) had two shots, one on goal.

Kessler finished the day with eight saves, equaling Villanova's Maura McCormick, who also stopped eight shots.

The Bears continue action on Wednesday, September 17, when they travel to Northeastern to face the Huskies in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
