Hanover, NH - The field hockey team (2-0, 1-0) was the first Brown team to open its Ivy League season, and it did so in style, defeating Dartmouth (0-3, 0-1), 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) had 10 saves to keep the Big Green out of the net, while sophomore Victoria Sacco (Madison, NJ) and junior Andrea Posa (Weston, MA) provided the margin of victory with a goal apiece.
It was Sacco who struck first, with under three minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Samantha Lloyd (Shavertown, PA) pushed a penalty corner to the top of the circle, where sophomore Sara Eaton (Arlington, VA) passed to Sacco. Sacco let a shot fly that beat the Dartmouth keeper for the 1-0 lead.
Posa got the Bears some insurance in the 51st minute. She carried the ball up the left sideline, working into a one-on-one situation with the Dartmouth goalkeeper and beating her for the score.
The Bears' next game is on Wednesday at Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
