NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown Field Hockey team (1-1) dropped a 6-2 decision to Sacred Heart on Wednesday night in a neutral game played at Yale.
The Pioneers wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead, scoring less than five minutes into the contest. Sacred Heart would add two more goals during the next 9:17 to take a 3-0 lead before Brown could get on the board.
Junior Kristen Vincent (Glens Falls, NY) scored her first of two goals to bring the Bears to within two at 16:43 off one of Brown's four first-half penalty corners. Senior Julia Kelderman (Chevy Chase, MD) and junior Tess Belmont (Poughkeepsie, NY) each assisted on the goal.
However, Sacred Heart re-gained the three-goal advantage with its fourth goal at 10:07. Kelderman and Belmont combined with Vincent on another penalty corner less than three minutes later to close the gap again, but the Pioneers scored with 33 seconds remaining in the half to take a 5-2 lead heading into the break.
Sacred Heart added its final goal less than three minnutes into the second half and the Bears could get no closer for the 6-2 final.
In net for Brown, senior Katie Noe (Simsbury, CT) made 10 saves, allowing five goals in the first half, while freshman Kristen Hodavance (Emmaus, PA) made seven saves, allowing one goal in the second half.
The Bears continue action on Saturday, September 11, when they travel to Hanover, NH to face Dartmouth at 12:00 noon in their 2004 Ivy League opener.
