FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Shealyn Testa and Felicitas Heinen each scored twice as host Fairfield defeated the Brown field hockey team by a 6-1 score at University Field on Sunday. The Bears drop to 6-10 this season while the Stags improve to 11-6 with the victory.
Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, Mass.) got the start in goal for the Bears, surrendering five goals on 13 shots before giving way to Cally Moran (Windsor, Conn.). Moran played the final 9:34, allowing one goal on two shots in her second appearance of the season. Caitlin Bennett turned away three of four shots on goal for Fairfield.
Penalty corners did in the Bears on Sunday as Fairfield converted on 4-of-11 opportunities. Testa put the Stags up 2-0 with goals seven minutes apart in the first half, the second coming off a penalty corner at 30:10.
Trailing by that two goal margin, the Stags increased their cushion to 4-0 on goals from Hillary Fitts and Felicitas Heinen three minutes apart from each other. The Bears broke through on a penalty corner as Emily Arciero (Avon, Conn.) tallied her first goal of the season at 52:06.
Fairfield responded to the Brown marker with two goals of its own, Kaitlyn Taddeo and Heinen concluded the scoring with strikes at 54:43 and 68:27 respectively.
Brown will conclude the 2013 campaign on the road against Ivy League rival, Yale, next Saturday in New Haven.
