PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ivy League leading-scorer Jasmine Cole added two goals to her total en route to a 4-0 Penn victory over the Brown field hockey team on Saturday at Goldberger Family Field. Prior to the game, seniors Maggie Brady (Tulsa, Okla.), Avery Burns (Millersville, Md.), Kelsey Grossman (Shavertown, Pa.), Charlotte Small (Summit, N.J.), and Torie Stearns (Rye, N.Y.) were recognized for their careers at Brown.
The Quakers improved to 13-3, 5-1 IVY in the win while the Bears dropped to 6-9, 1-5 IVY in the loss. Junior goalkeeper Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, Mass.) stopped seven of 11 shots on goal while Penn's Carly Sokach made six saves for the visiting Quakers.
The Bears had a golden opportunity in the ninth minute as Meghan O'Donnell (Winchester, Mass.) found herself on a clear breakaway, but Sokach came out to challenge, cancelling out the bid.
The Quakers opened the scoring as Elizabeth Hitti's short-side shot found its way past McSweeney in the 25th minute. The teams battled evenly for the remainder of the first half as Penn took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Alexis Miller (Caldwell, N.J) registered a team-high three shots on goal, but the Bears were just unable to solve Sokach on Saturday.
Three second half tallies gave the Quakers a lead that they would not relinquish. Emily Corcoran's 13th goal of the season gave Penn a two goal cushion in the 46th minute before Cole struck twice for her league-leading 17th and 18th goals to secure the 4-0 triumph.
Penn held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners and a 23-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 edge in the second half.
The Bears concluded their 2013 home slate with a 3-5 record overall on Goldberger Field. Brown will close out the regular season with road games at Fairfield on Sunday and at Yale on Nov. 9.
