Brown Travels to Dartmouth for Ivy League Contest
PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown field hockey team (2-3, 0-1) will open a two-game road stretch when it travels to Hanover, NH to face Dartmouth in a 12:00 noon Ivy contest on Saturday, September 22nd. The Bears enter the game following last Sunday's loss to Columbia in their Ivy opener and will look to snap a two-game skid against the Big Green. For the fourth year in a row, the Brown-Dartmouth game will feature a pair of Masini sisters going head-to-head. Anna Masini (Ann Arbor, MI) is a freshman at Brown, while her older sister, Lisa, is a senior at Dartmouth. For the past three years, the game saw Lisa go up against older sister, Kit, a 2012 Brown graduate.

ABOUT BROWN: Brown enters its only game of the week following a 4-1 loss to Columbia in its 2012 Ivy League opener last Sunday. Sophomore Meaghan O'Donnell (Winchester, MA) scored her first goal of the season to give Brown a 1-0 lead late in the first half, but the Lions stormed back with four second-half goals to earn the 4-1 victory. Sophomore Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, MA) recorded 16 saves, while three Bears – juniors Kelsey Grossman (Shavertown, PA) and Charlotte Small (Summit, NJ), and sophomore Clayton Christus (Bernardsville, NJ) – each had one defensive save. Christus currently leads the team in scoring with five points (2g, 1a), while freshman Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, CA) has four points (2g). Five other players have each scored one goal this year, while two additional players have recorded one assist. McSweeney has played every minute in goal and has a 3.80 GAA with a .740 save percentage.

LAST TIME vs. DARTMOUTH: Dartmouth came back from a 3-2 deficit to tie the game at 3-3 with 17 minutes remaining and force overtime. The Big Green then struck for the game-winner eight minutes into the first overtime to earn the 4-3 win. Brown was led by Meghan O'Donnell '15 (Winchester, MA), who scored two goals, and Leslie Springmeyer '12, who tallied one. Dartmouth's Maya Herm led four different goal scorers for the Big Green with four points (1g, 2a). Shannon McSweeney '15 (Boxborough, MA) recorded 14 saves in net, while Bridget McNamara '12 (Bethesda, MD) had a defensive save. Meagan Vakiener stopped eight shots in net for the Big Green.
ABOUT DARTMOUTH: The Big Green enters Saturday's game following a 6-5 win over Bryant on Wednesday to improve to 2-4 on the year. After opening the season with a 3-1 win over UMass, Dartmouth dropped four games in a row, falling to Northeastern (4-1), American (3-0), Maryland (6-0), and Princeton (4-1), leading up to the win over Bryant. Lisa Masini currently leads the team in scoring with 10 points (4g, 2a), while Liz Blanken and Brooke Van Valkenburg both have 5 points (2g, 1a). Three other players have each scored one goal so far this year, while an additional four have each posted at least one assist. Jenna Stearns has played the majority of time in net and has posted a 3.14 GAA with a .676 save percentage in 245 minutes. Ellen Meyer has played 175 minutes and has a 4.80 GAA and a .667 save percentage.
UP NEXT: Brown takes a break from Ivy League play and travels to Quinnipiac on Wednesday, September 26th to face the Bobcats in a 4:00 p.m. contest. The Bears' next home game is Saturday, September 29th, when they face Harvard at 12:00 noon. The game against the Crimson is part of a weekend double-header, as Brown hosts Fairfield at 12:00 noon on Sunday, September 30th.
