PROVIDENCE, RI – Fifteen members of the field hockey team were named to the 2011 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year. In addition, Brown's team GAP of 3.46 during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year ranked fifth nationally. American led the way with a 3.55, while St. Francis had a 3.53. Monmouth (3.48), Central Michigan (3.47), and Brown (3.46) rounded out the top five. Overall, Brown was one of 65 Division I teams to earn the 2011 NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. This award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
Brown's 15 individual players is tied for the most in the country with Appalachian State and Central Michigan, which both also had 15 student-athletes named to the National Academic Squad. Brown's honored athletes include four-time honorees Kit Masini '12 (Ann Arbor, MI), Bridget McNamara '12 (Bethesda, MD), and Abigail Taft '12 (Shaker Heights, OH), who are three of 94 four-time honorees in the nation.
Also recognized from Brown were three-time honoree Kelley Harrison '13 (Houston, TX), and two-time honorees Maggie Brady '14 (Tulsa, OK), Avery Burns '14 (Millersville, MD), Kelsey Grossman '14 (Shavertown, PA), and Charlotte Small '14 (Summit, NJ). Liza Green '15 (Providence, RI), Mary Harrison '15 (Houston, TX), Emily Longman '15 (Shaker Heights, OH), Mieke Lynch '14 (Wilmington, DE), Shannon McSweeney '15 (Boxborough, MA), Meghan O'Donnell '15 (Winchester, MA), and Torie Stearns '14 (Rye, NY) are all first-time honorees.
