Three Bears Earn All-Ivy Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI – Senior Laura Iacovetti (Blue Bell, PA) was named Second Team All-Ivy to lead three Brown players in earning 2011 All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League's eight head coaches. Joining Iacovetti in this year's All-Ivy selections senior Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) and freshman Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, MA), who both earned Honorable Mention honors.

An Honorable Mention selection a year ago, Iacovetti earned All-Ivy honors for the second straight season. One of the Bears most consistent backs, Iacovetti also saw some time this year in the midfield, while earning six assists, second on the team and 15th all-time at Brown for assists in a season. Iacovetti played all but 65 minutes of Brown's season this year and started all 17 games, as she has started all 51 over her final three years. For her career, Iacovetti played in 67 games (2nd all-time at Brown), missing just one contest in four years. She posted 11 points (1g, 9a), and ranks 20th all-time at Brown with nine career assists and ninth all-time with three career defensive saves.

A four-time All-Ivy honoree, Springmeyer has been named Honorable Mention All-Ivy for the third time in her career after earning Second Team honors in 2009. A forward for the majority of her career, Springmeyer was moved to the backfield midway through the Bears 2011 season. Springmeyer started all 17 games, and finished second on the team in scoring with 11 points (4g, 3a). In 67 career games (2nd all-time at Brown), Springmeyer posted 33 goals (2nd all-time at Brown), 21 assists (3rd all-time at Brown), and 87 points (tied for 1st all-time at Brown). She also has high rankings of 7th all-time at Brown for goals in a season (11 in 2010), 6th all-time at Brown for assists in a season (9 in 2009), and 4th all-time at Brown for points in a season (29 in 2009).

McSweeney is making her first appearance on the All-Ivy team after playing every minute of the season in goal for Brown. She led the Ivy League with 160 saves, a mark that is 5th all-time at Brown for saves in a season, and posted a 3.59 GAA and .721 save percentage. McSweeney recorded double digit saves in seven games, including a career-high 20 in the Bears' season finale at Yale.
