Iacovetti, McNamara and Springmeyer Named 2011 Field Hockey Captains
Brown field hockey head coach Jill Reeve has announced that seniors Laura Iacovetti (Blue Bell, PA), Bridget McNamara (Bethesda, MD), and Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) have been named captains for the 2011 season. All three have been valuable contributors since their arrival at Brown in the fall of 2008, and will look to lead the Bears both on and off the field.
A midfielder and back, McNamara earned the team's Tricia E. Colligan '96 Award for Sportsmanship in 2010, while starting all 17 games. A vital part of the Bears' backfield, McNamara recorded two defensive saves in 2010 and also had one assist. For her career, she has played in 41 games, starting 28.
A forward and three-time All-Ivy honoree, Springmeyer earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in 2010 after earning Second Team recognition in 2009. The Bears' 2010 leading scorer with 26 points, which ranks 9th all-time at Brown, Springmeyer also led the team with 11 goals (7th all-time at Brown) and was second on the team with four assists. Her 26 points ranked 8th overall in the Ivy League, while her 11 goals was 6th in the League. Having played in 50 career games, Springmeyer will enter her final season ranked 2nd all-time at Brown with 29 career goals and 2nd all-time with 76 career points. Her 18 career assists is 4th all-time.
