Four Bears Earn All-Ivy Field Hockey Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI – Senior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) was named Second Team All-Ivy to lead four Brown players in earning 2010 All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League's eight head coaches. Joining Hyland in this year's All-Ivy selections is a trio of juniors – Laura Iacovetti (Blue Bell, PA), Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD), and Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ), who all earned Honorable Mention honors.

Hyland, who also earned Second Team All-Ivy recognition last year, started every single game of her career, while breaking the Brown record for games played (68). One of the top four scorers on the team in each of her four years, Hyland finished the 2010 season ranked 4th on the team with 11 points, while leading the Bears with five assists and three defensive saves, a mark that ranks 2nd all-time at Brown and was 2nd in the Ivy League this year. She also ranks 13th all-time at Brown for career points (41), ninth all-time at Brown for career assists (13), and fifth all-time at Brown for career defensive saves (4). Recently selected to play in the 2010 Senior Game, Hyland has also earned three team awards during her career, the MVP in 2009, the Five Claw Award in 2008, and the Outstanding Rookie Award in 2007.

A three-time All-Ivy honoree, Springmeyer has been named Honorable Mention All-Ivy for the second time in her career after earning Second Team honors last year. The Bears leading scorer with 26 points, which ranks 9th all-time at Brown, Springmeyer also led the team with 11 goals (7th all-time at Brown) and was second on the team with four assists. Her 26 points ranked 8th overall in the Ivy League, while her 11 goals was 6th in the League. Having played in 50 career games, Springmeyer will enter her final season ranked 2nd all-time at Brown with 29 career goals and 2nd all-time with 76 career points. Her 18 career assists is 4th all-time.

Both Iacovetti and Kessler are making their first appearance on the All-Ivy Squad this year. Iacovetti is one of the Bears' most consistent backs, having posted a pair of defensive saves, while playing in all 17 games. A vital piece of the Bears' corner unit, Iacovetti also tallied two assists this year. In three seasons, she has played in 50 games, missing one game, while starting all 34 during the past two seasons.

Kessler started 16 games this season and posted a 2.90 GAA to go along with a .720 save percentage and a 6-9 record. She led the Ivy League with 121 saves, which ranks 9th all-time at Brown, and was 6th in goals against average and 4th in save percentage. In 36 career games, Kessler has posted 273 saves, a 3.00 GAA, and a .730 save percentage.
