PROVIDENCE, RI – Senior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) has been selected to participate in the annual Senior Game. One of three student-athletes from the Ivy League selected to compete, Hyland concluded her Brown field hockey career with an assist on the game-winning goal this past Saturday against Yale. The 2010 Senior Game will be held on Saturday, November 20th in College Park, Maryland at the University of Maryland. Game time is to be determined.
A midfielder and history concentrator, Hyland started in all 68 games during her career, breaking the school record for games played in a career. A Second Team All-Ivy honoree in 2009, Hyland also earned the team's MVP award last season in addition to the Five Claw Award in 2008 and the Outstanding Rookie Award in 2007.
One of the top four scorers on the team in each of her four years, Hyland finished the 2010 season ranked 4th on the team with 11 points, while leading the Bears with five assists and three defensive saves, a mark that ranks 2nd all-time at Brown. She also ranks 13th all-time at Brown for career points (41), ninth all-time at Brown for career assists (13), and fifth all-time at Brown for career defensive saves (4).
This year's Senior Game participants will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four 25-minute sessions.
