HANOVER, NH – The Brown field hockey team (1-5, 0-2) suffered a 4-2 setback to Dartmouth (5-1, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon in Hanover. Senior Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) and junior Abigail Taft (Shaker Heights, OH) each scored for Brown, while junior Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) recorded eight saves.
Brown had the first great chance of the game on a corner early in the first half, but Dartmouth's Kelly Hood gave the Big Green a 1-0 lead at the 7:10 mark when she scored on a direct shot off Dartmouth's first corner of the game.
Maya Herm increased Dartmouth's lead to 2-0 at 21:17 when she lifted the ball over Kessler off an assist from Claire Byrne.
The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Big Green until early in the second half when Zysk's first of the year off a pass from senior Katie Hyland (Reigelsville, PA) brought Brown to within 2-1 just 2:31 after halftime.
The Big Green responded just 3:16 later though to regain the two-goal advantage, as Hood scored on another Dartmouth Corner.
Taft answered for Brown exactly 15 minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal to again close the deficit to just one goal, but a third Hood tally on another Dartmouth corner 3:11 later put the game out of reach.
Overall, Dartmouth outshot Brown, 36-10, and earned 13 corners to Brown's five. Big Green goalie Meagan Vaklener made just one save in the game.
Brown returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, September
28th, when it hosts Fairfield in a 4:00 p.m.
