Bears Fall to #19 Iowa, 5-0
IOWA CITY, IA – The Brown
field hockey team (0-2) dropped a 5-0 decision to 19th-ranked Iowa
(1-3) on Monday afternoon. Junior Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD)
recorded 13 saves in 58:12, before giving way to sophomore Alexis Aurigemma (Wilmington, DE), who played the final 11:48.
Iowa put the pressure on in the
early going, taking eight shots on goal in the first 10 minutes.
The Brown defense held tough despite the Hawkeyes' push,
holding Iowa scoreless.
However, the
Hawkeyes broke through at the 17:22 mark with what would prove to
be the game-winning goal. Iowa took a 2-0 lead at 28:42 to hold
onto the two-goal advantage at the half, a half it dominated in all
categories, outshooting Brown, 12-1, and earning six corners to
Brown's none.
Iowa continued to press in the
second half, increasing its lead to 3-0 about 11 minutes after
halftime. A pair of goals in the next 13 minutes would account for
the 5-0 final.
For the game,
Iowa held a 27-4 advantage in shots and a 10-0 advantage in
corners.
The Bears return
to action on Saturday, September 11, when they travel to New Jersey
