Hyland, Puhalla & Zysk Named 2010 Field Hockey Captains

Brown field hockey head coach Tara Harrington '94 has announced that rising seniors Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA), Cassie Puhalla (Forty Fort, PA), and Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) have been named captains for the 2010 season. All three have been valuable contributors since their arrival at Brown in the fall of 2007, and will look to lead the Bears both on and off the field.

A midfielder, Hyland has started all 51 games over the past three years, earning Second Team All-Ivy at the conclusion of the 2009 season. The second-leading scorer on the team in 2009 with 16 points (6g, 4a), Hyland was third on the team in scoring during the 2008 season with 10 points (3g, 4a). A recipient of a Royce Fellowship for Sport & Society in the spring of 2009, Hyland is active in helping to promote healthy lifestyles to young girls in the Providence area through Girls on the Run.

A forward, Puhalla has played in 25 games over the past three seasons, scoring two big goals in penalty strokes that would both stand as game-winning goals in victories over Vermont and Maine. Last season, Puhalla was the recipient of both the John Danforth '52 Sportsmanship Award and the Five Claw Award for outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication to team and training in the offseason.

A forward, Zysk has played in 49 of 51 games over the past three years, starting in all 49. The fourth-leading scorer on the team in 2009, Zysk finished the year with 12 points (5g, 2a) after tallying nine points (4g, 1a) in 2008 and eight (4g) in 2007. Zysk was also the recipient of the Coaches' Award at the conclusion of the 2008 season.
