Field Hockey Announces 2010 Team Award Recipients
The Brown field hockey team held its annual season-ending banquet, and eight different individuals were honored with team awards. Senior captain Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) earned the Most Valuable Player Award, while classmates and fellow captains Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) and Cassie Puhalla (Forty Fort, PA) also earned awards.

13 Bears Named to 2010 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad
Thirteen members of the field hockey team were named to the 2010 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year. In addition, Brown was one of 63 Division I teams to earn the 2010 NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. This award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.

Jill Reeve Named Brown Head Field Hockey Coach
Former U.S. Olympian and 12-year national team member, Jill Reeve, has been named the head field hockey coach at Brown in an announcement made by Director of Athletics Michael Goldberger. Reeve joins the Bears’ staff following seven successful seasons as the head coach of the Miami Ohio field hockey program.

Harrington Resigns as Head Field Hockey Coach
Brown head field hockey coach Tara Harrington ’94 has announced her resignation as head coach of the Bears to transition into a career in University Advancement at Roger Williams University. Harrington has spent the past 12 seasons on the Brown field hockey staff, including the past four as its head coach.

Hyland Earns Fall Academic All-Ivy Honors
The Ivy League released its fall list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Brown’s Lisa Caputo ’86 Named NCAA Silver Anniversary Award Winner
Former Brown field hockey and lacrosse standout Lisa Caputo ’86 was named one of six former student-athletes as recipients of the 2011 NCAA Silver Anniversary Award that annually recognizes distinguished individuals on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletics careers.

Four Bears Earn All-Ivy Field Hockey Honors
Senior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) was named Second Team All-Ivy to lead four Brown players in earning 2010 All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League’s eight head coaches. Joining Hyland in this year’s All-Ivy selections is a trio of juniors – Laura Iacovetti (Blue Bell, PA), Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD), and Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ), who all earned Honorable Mention honors.

Hyland Named to Participate in Senior Game
Senior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) has been selected to participate in the annual Senior Game. One of three student-athletes from the Ivy League selected to compete, Hyland concluded her Brown field hockey career with an assist on the game-winning goal this past Saturday against Yale. The 2010 Senior Game will be held on Saturday, November 20th in College Park, Maryland at the University of Maryland. Game time is to be determined.

Mosquera Lifts Brown to 3-2 Win over Yale in Season Finale
Sophomore Elara Mosquera (North Hampton, NH) scored her fourth goal of the season on a Brown penalty corner with 5:15 remaining in the game to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Brown field hockey team (6-11, 3-4) to a thrilling, 3-2 win over Yale (11-6, 5-2) on Saturday afternoon at Warner Roof.

Springmeyer Named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week
Brown junior Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) has been named Ivy League co-Player of the Week, after helping to lead the Bears to a 2-0 week with wins over Holy Cross (4-1) and Penn (3-2). It marked the first time since September 2009 that the Bears won back-to-back games and also gives Brown two Ivy wins.

Bears Outlast Penn, 3-2, on Goals by Zysk, Springmeyer and Mosquera
The Brown field hockey team (5-11, 2-4) outlasted Penn (3-13, 1-5), 3-2, in an Ivy League battle on Sunday afternoon at Franklin Field. The two teams were scoreless through the first half, as all the goals came in the game’s final 25 minutes and Brown survived a late push by the Quakers, who had a player advantage for the final 2:38 of regulation.

Springmeyer & Taft Each Score Twice to Lead Brown Past Holy Cross, 4-1
Juniors Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) and Abigail Taft (Shaker Heights, OH) each scored a pair of goals, while Springmeyer also added an assist to help lead the Brown field hockey team (4-11) to a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross (0-16) in the final non-league game of the season Tuesday evening.

Bears Drop Overtime Heartbreaker to Cornell, 2-1
The Brown field hockey team (3-11, 1-4) dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to visiting Cornell (10-3, 4-1), falling to the Big Red in overtime, the Bears’ second straight overtime game. The Big Red came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the score midway through the second half and then tallied the game-winner just 4:33 into the first overtime.

Bears Defeat Cross-Town Rival Providence, 2-1, in Penalty Strokes
The Brown field hockey team (3-10) battled cross-town rival Providence College (4-12) down to the wire and came away with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Friars in penalty strokes. As darkness settled over Warner Roof Wednesday evening, the first four Bears up scored on their strokes, while the Friars had two of their five shooters miss, as Brown earned its third victory of the season.

The Brown field hockey team (2-10, 1-3) suffered a 7-1 loss to #4 Princeton (10-2, 4-0) on Saturday afternoon at Class of ’52 Stadium. Freshman Charlotte Small (Summit, NJ) scored her first career goal on the Bears' only shot of the game, while junior Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) stopped 13 shots in net for Brown.

The Brown field hockey team (2-9) dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Maine (9-4) on Sunday afternoon at Warner Roof. The Black Bears held a 25-5 advantage in shots and a 10-3 advantage in corners, as junior goalie Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) recorded 14 saves on the afternoon.

The Brown field hockey team (2-8) dropped a 5-3 decision to visiting Davidson (10-2) on Saturday afternoon at Warner Roof. The Bears dominated the Wildcats in both shots (19-16) and penalty corners (8-4), but Davidson goalie Sarah Fisher was the difference in the game, stopping 11 shots that came her way.

Zysk and Springmeyer Score for Bears in 4-2 Loss at Quinnipiac
Junior Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) scored her fifth goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining, but Quinnipiac (4-6) would net two goals on penalty corners in the game's final 10 minutes to earn a 4-2 victory over the Brown field hockey team (2-7) Tuesday afternoon at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf Complex.

Junior Abigail Taft (Shaker Heights, OH) scored her second goal of the game with 2:25 remaining in the second overtime to lift the Brown field hockey team (2-6, 1-2) to a thrilling, 3-2, double overtime victory over Harvard (3-6, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon at Warner Roof.

2010 Brown Field Hockey Interactive Magazine Available Now
Brown Athletics launched a bold initiative to present its athletic teams in a modern, interactive mode with the release of the Field Hockey Interactive Magazine, which is available for view on Brownbears.com. The interactive magazines will take the place of media guides which will no longer be produced due to NCAA and Ivy League regulations.

Bears Fall to Fairfield, 5-2
The Brown field hockey team (1-6) dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Fairfield (6-4) on Tuesday afternoon at Warner Roof. The Bears scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game, sandwiched around a single goal for the Stags, but Fairfield would go on to score four straight goals to claim a 5-2 victory in a game played in a steady rain.

Playing their second game in less than 24 hours, the Brown field hockey team (1-4) showed no signs of fatigue in posting its first win of the 2010 season, 6-2 over Bryant (0-7). The Bears were led by juniors Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) and Abigail Taft (Shaker Heights, OH), who each scored two goals, while freshman Torie Stearns (Rye, NY) notched three assists.

Junior Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) led the Bears with two goals, while senior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) and freshman Torie Stearns (Rye, NY) each added one to lead Brown offensively.

The Brown field hockey team (0-3) dropped a 3-0 decision to Monmouth (3-1) on Saturday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field. The Hawks scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal just 13 minutes into the game and then added two goals in the second half to account for the 3-0 final.

The Brown field hockey team (0-2) dropped a 5-0 decision to 19th-ranked Iowa (1-3) on Monday afternoon. Junior Lauren Kessler (Burtonsville, MD) recorded 13 saves in 58:12, before giving way to sophomore Alexis Aurigemma (Wilmington, DE), who played the final 11:48.

The Brown field hockey team (0-1) faced a tough Miami (Ohio) squad on Saturday afternoon in its season opener, falling to the Hawks, 1-0, in a neutral site game played at the University of Iowa.

Brown field hockey head coach Tara Harrington '94 has announced that rising seniors Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA), Cassie Puhalla (Forty Fort, PA), and Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) have been named captains for the 2010 season. All three have been valuable contributors since their arrival at Brown in the fall of 2007, and will look to lead the Bears both on and off the field.
