Penn Takes 4-0 Win Despite Washburn's 14 Saves

Sophomore goalie Caroline Washburn (Pittsburgh, PA) turned in an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon, turning back 14 shots, but Penn stifled Brown's attack in a 4-0 win on the Bear's senior day.  After taking a scoreless tie into the half, Bruno was outshot 14-2 in the final 35 minutes as the Quakers came away with the win.  Going into the final game of the season, Brown is now 5-11 overall and 0-6 in league play, while Penn improves to 5-10 on the season and 2-3 against Ivy opponents.

In the first half, Washburn was impregnable, turning away every attempt as Penn took 14 total shots, including seven that were on goal, without finding the back of the net.  However, the Quakers settled into a nice offensive rhythm in the second half, as they kept a steady barrage of shots coming at Washburn, and forced six corner opportunities, converting on two of them.

Offensively, the Bears were led by sophomore Abigail Taft (Shaker Heights, OH), who recorded two shots on the day, including one on goal.  Rookie Elara Mosquera (North Hampton, NH) and sophomore Tacy Zysk (Walpole, MA) also notched on-target shots for Bruno.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, November 7, when they wrap up the 2009 season at Yale at 1:00 p.m.
