Providence, R.I. - Despite a pair of goals from junior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA), Brown fell 8-3 to Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon, as the Big Green converted four corner opportunities for the win. With the loss, Brown falls to 3-4 on the season, and 0-2 in Ivy League play, while Dartmouth improves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in league action.
The first half began auspiciously for the Bears, as Dartmouth scored twice in the first seven minutes of action. After converting on a corner just under two minutes in, the Big Green added another tally on a 2-on-1 breakaway down the field for a 2-0 lead.
Though Dartmouth would eventually push the advantage to 4-0, the Bears answered back with a rally of their own just prior to halftime. Bruno executed a perfect corner, setting up Hyland's first goal, then added another just 19 seconds before the break after a long pass upfield gave sophomore Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, N.J.) an open look on goal, which she converted.
The second half remained quiet through the opening 20 minutes, as Brown keeper Caroline Washburn (Pittsburgh, PA) kept Dartmouth off the scoresheet early. However, the Big Green finally broke through at the 56 minute mark, scoring on another corner. That tally marked the beginning of an offensive rush, which saw five combined goals scored in the final 14 minutes, with Hyland's second goal the highlight for the Bears as Dartmouth hung on for an 8-3 win.
Brown will be back in action on Tuesday, September 29, when the team travels to take on Fairfield at 4:00 p.m.
