June 13, 2005

Brown women's crew assistant coach Phoebe Murphy was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year on Monday as announced by the CRCA. She was previously named the 2005 New England Region Assistant of the Year after helping the Bears to a third-place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championship last month.

Murphy first came to Brown in 1987 and since that time has helped lead the Brown program to unprecedented success. Under her and head coach John Murphy's leadership, the duo has developed Brown into the winningest program in NCAA Championship history, capturing a total of four national titles in the nine year history of the event.

This past season, Brown's second varsity eight and two novice eight crews ranked number one in the region throughout the season. The second varsity eight boat rowed its way to a third place finish at NCAA's this past weekend while the varsity four came through with a second overall finish.
