Brown Oarswomen Headed to NCAA's

May 21, 2003

The defending National Champion Brown women's crew has been selected to defend its title in the 2003 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships, May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis. The championship will be hosted by Indiana University, Bloomington.

The team championship is comprised of twelve teams, and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers each and one boat of four rowers. In addition, four eight-women boats from institutions not represented in the team competition are selected.

Perennial powers Brown and Washington went head to head for the sixth time in the championship's history in Indianapolis last year and Brown's win evened the score at three titles apiece.

The selection of teams and individual boats was based on eligibility and availability of student-athletes; regional championship results; regional rankings; late-season performance; head-to-head results; results against teams/boats already selected; results against common opponents and results against regionally ranked teams/boats. One team from each region was selected and the remaining seven teams were selected at large.
