The Brown women's crew has once again received a bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championship to be held in Sacramento, CA, May 27-29, as announced by the NCAA Championship Selection Committee on Tuesday afternoon.The Bears, winners of four of the last six national titles, have been invited to every national championship since the event existed (1997).
A total of 12 teams were selected to take part in the championship, including Ivy League rivals Harvard, Princeton and Yale. Another four teams were also selected to take part in the varsity eight event only.
Last season, Brown won both the varsity and second varsity eight races en route to its fourth national title. The Bulldogs finished second behind Brown. Princeton's varsity eight is currently ranked number one in the nation this season.
The 16 varsity eight teams selected will compete in a series of heats beginning on Friday, May 27. The 12 teams selected to compete in every event, including Brown, will also row in a series of heats in the second varsity eight and varsity four events, beginning that Friday as well. The semifinals will be held the next day, followed by the finals on Sunday, May 29.
